Untitled

Hi, my name is David Cirillo, and I'm a student from Rice University. I am interested in expanding this article with more scholarly sources, and to add specifics on types of discrimination, a history of discrimination, and recent social progressions and policy. [untitled section]

I created this page so that It would become an article. Their currently is no article (aside from this one) which strictly addressed prejudice and discrimination againist HIV-positive people. -Rainbowofpeace (talk) 11:46, 18 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

So why haven't you added to it? all you have done is copied this all from the AIDS article. If it bothered you so much or you felt strongly enough that it should have it's own article then why have you left it to someone else to do the work? Unless you can come up with something else to put here then this article can probably be deleted and redirect to the relevant section in the main AIDS page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.101.72.195 (talk) 11:53, 4 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Merge HIV exceptionalism

Support merging from HIV exceptionalism to Discrimination against people with HIV/AIDS since the issue is stigma -- Aronzak (talk) 00:01, 10 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Support per nomination, also I think that the original research in that article should be removed. Rupert Loup (talk) 18:20, 14 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose: discrimination is, in this context, inherently negative and arises from stigma; HIV exceptionalism was motivated by people with good intentions and affected communities ("AIDS activists and their allies" as the Oppenheimer (2005) reference quotes), with an aim of providing better health care and preemptively opposing what they feared would be the draconian actions of the state. While both discrimination and exceptionalism may be driven by stigma, that does not make them equivalent. I believe that they are sufficiently distinct and notable topics that they should be discussed separately. Klbrain (talk) 10:22, 17 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Rhet 130: Wikipedia Assignment

Hi, I will be working on this wikipedia not to delete previous information but to add to current info that is already on the page. Some sections will be incomplete but by November 25, 2016 everything will be completed in time and with the correct information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tmontford (talkcontribs) 22:31, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

rename to serophobia

@DaddyCell: You proposed a rename of "Discrimination against people with HIV/AIDS" to "serophobia".

Can you talk this through here? Some guidance is Wikipedia:Requested_moves#Requesting_controversial_and_potentially_controversial_moves.

If I can help you frame your argument then ping me, but for now, just try to talk it through. Thanks. Blue Rasberry (talk) 19:41, 3 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

Hello my name is Sophia. I am a student at Georgetown University and plan to add to the material in this Wikipedia page. Specifically, I will be adding sections that address Blood Donation Restrictions on At-Risk Populations, Misconceptions about HIV in the United States, and Disparities in HIV Prevalence.

Adding info to blood bans, disparities in marginalized groups, and new COVID-19 section

Hello, my name is Siena and I am a student at Georgetown University. Some group project partners and I will be adding to this article. We have proposed additions to the blood ban section that reflect the FDA's policy changes in 2020, additions to the HIV-related stigma section, a new HIV/AIDS and COVID-19 section, and additions to the HIV/AIDS health disparities in marginalized groups section that reflect how incarcerated people are affected by HIV/AIDS health disparities and how marginalized communities face barriers to accessing HIV/AIDS preventative care. For anyone looking to make more changes to this article, we suggest potentially adding a section on racial disparities in HIV/AIDS susceptibility. This may be a better fit for the main article on HIV/AIDS. Whichever article this is added to, we think highlighting how certain factors give marginalized groups a higher chance of developing HIV/AIDS is a good idea. Updating sections on COVID-19 pandemic impact, HIV misconceptions, etc.

Hi y'all, my name is Al and I am a senior at Georgetown University working on updating this article for a group project. My partner, Maeve, and I will be adding material regarding the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on PLHIV, particularly in how support, resources, and health access have affected PLHIV. In addition, we are planning on updating some statistics regarding HIV misconceptions with more recent data, as the current statistics on the page are more than a decade old as of now. Also, we plan on including statistics for populations most affected by HIV status, such as the increased risk for African American women, transgender women of color, and drug users. We hope that our updates and additions will provide a comprehensive look on how COVID-19, racial health disparities, and gender inequalities are connected within marginalized groups most affected by HIV/AIDS.Alc306 (talk) 17:38, 18 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
