THERE IS A MISTAKE IN THE ARTICLE FOR TRANSMISSION FROM THE MOTHER TO THE UTERO THERE need to be spirochetemia (meaning the bacteria caussing syphilis need to be in abundant numbers in the blood) that only occurs during the primary and secondary syphilis phases but not in latent syphilis and tertiary syphilis

  • That's not entirely true. There can still be perinatal transmission even in tertiary syphilis. Perinatal transmission occurs in 50% of patients with prim. or sec. syphilis, 40% of early latent, 10% of late latent, and 10% of tertiary infections.
