confusing statement

I find the following statement confusing: "The reason why people get allergies is not known. The allergens are not passed down through generations. It is believed if parents have allergies the child is more likely to be allergic to the same allergens." Given that allergens are external to the organism experiencing allergic response the sentence "The allergens are not passed down through generations." seems superfluous. One really wouldn't expect a parents body to replicate and then pass on bee venom or a peanut to the child. If this was a typo and the author instead intended to say "The allergies are not passed down through generations." then the sentence seems contradicted by the following sentence " It is believed if parents have allergies the child is more likely to be allergic to the same allergens." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.84.73.145 (talk) 17:33, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
