History

Pedal pushers are calf-length trousers that were popular during the 1950s and the early 1960s. First seen as Knickerbockers or “knickers”. Knickerbockers (clothing)are baggy trousers that are the knee or just below and most commonly fastened with either a button or buckle. Knickerbockers were initially worn by men in the late 19th century and overtime became part of women’s fashion. Often cuffed and worn tight to the skin, they are related in style to capri pants, and are sometimes referred to as "clam diggers". The name "pedal pushers" originated from the style originally worn by cyclists, because long pants can catch in bicycle chains, but the style quickly became identified with teenage girls.

Society

Pedal Pushers known now in society as an popular 2000's or Y2K look. The fashion statement is making a return. With spring and summer 2024 approaching the new fashion trends hit the market. As of January 2024 a new trend seen in places like New York and Copenhagen, Pedal Pushers or "Capris" are making their big return. The 2023 runways as late of September modeled the pedal pushers. Several designers took the step and created modern and new ways to style the latest craze. New York shows of Tory Burch, Sandy Liang and 3.1 Phillip Lim, shows in London the labels Chopova Lowena, Supriya Lele and Susan Fang all hit the runway wearing the pedal pushers. They were seen on famous show Sex in the City worn by Carrie Bradshaw played by Sarah Jessica Parker. Carrie Bradshaw a writer in New York City with an eye for fashion and vogue. Throughout recent years the fictional characters wardrobe has became inspiration in fashion. All over Pinterest and other social media's fashion once again is using it's past and recycling. Pedal Pusher's are know being sold on popular websites like revolve and FWRD for example. Women have began wearing the style pant in the form of workout leggings, business attire, casual, lace fabric or the standard denim fabric.

Characteristic's

Pedal Pushers will be about knee length. Most commonly designed in nice fabric like wool, denim or lace as of recent. The style of pant will be form fitting. The pant can be cuffed.

The look is usually occupied with a tiny top like Crop top. A women may dress it up a blazer and blouse for a work attire expectable look and heels. Pedal pushers can also be seen with a tank and belt for a slim flattering look.
