Summary

Description
English: Low magnification micrograph of a papillary cystadenoma lymphomatosum (Warthin tumour), a benign tumour of salivary glands, that classically arises in the parotid gland. H&E stain.

A fragment of normal parotid gland (with its typical acinar arrangement and hyperchromatic cytoplasm) is seen on the right aspect of the image.

Features of papillary cystadenoma lymphomatosum seen in the image:

  • Papillae (nipple-shaped structures), tubular masses of cells, with a two rows of pink (eosinophilic) epithelial cells (with cuboidal basal cells and columnar luminal cells) -- left aspect of image.
  • Fibrous capsule (painted with blue ink to denote the resection margin) -- run diagonally across image (pink & homogenous).
  • Cystic space (white - left/upper portion).
  • Lymphoid stroma (blue).
