HMAS Newcastle (FFG-06) is combining efforts with coalition forces under the flag of Commander Task Force Five Eight (CTF-58) in support of maritime security operations (MSO) by providing security in the area surrounding Khawr Al Amaya Oil Terminal (KAAOT) and Al Basrah Oil Terminal (ABOT) in the North Arabian Gulf (NAG). MSO sets the condition for security and stability in the maritime environment. MSO complement the counter-terrorism and security efforts of regional nations and deny international terrorists use of the maritime environment as a venue for attack or to transport personnel, weapons, or other material.
