DescriptionTeachers empowered to remove unnecessary bureaucracy.jpg
English: New landmark guidance for teachers has been published today to reduce workload and bureaucracy.
The publication follows concerns expressed by teachers around Curriculum for Excellence workload and the commitment made by the Deputy First Minister, John Swinney, in the Education Delivery Plan to reduce teacher workload.
Following the launch of the new guidance, the Deputy First Minister and HM Chief Inspector of Education and Chief Executive of Education Scotland, Dr Bill Maxwell, spoke directly to teachers through a Glow meet.
Speaking at the launch of the new guidance at St Roch's Primary and Hearing Impaired School, Mr Swinney said, 'One of the first things I wanted to do, when I was appointed Education Secretary, was to go out and meet teachers face to face and hear directly from them how we could improve our education system. Workload was one of the most common concerns raised, so I wanted to take immediate action to address this to give teachers the time and space to do their jobs.
