DescriptionPrime Minister Robert Muldoon and his wife Thea attending the royal wedding, 1981 (28335997832).jpg
On 29 July 1981 Prime Minister Robert Muldoon and his wife Thea were among 3500 guests at the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer.
The so-called “wedding of the century” took place at St Paul's Cathedral in London. The Governor-General of New Zealand, Sir David Beattie, and his wife Lady Beattie, were also in attendance.
The New Zealand Government’s wedding gift to Charles and Diana was a quantity of all-wool broadloom carpet. The carpet is believed to have been used at the couple's country home in Gloucestershire.
The photograph above is one of many donated to Archives New Zealand by Lady Muldoon.
