Longitudinal sonogram of a normal thumb shows a normal ulnar collateral ligament (UCL, asterisk). The deeper fibers of the UCL appear anisotropic. Superficially, it is covered by an additional thin, hyperechoic band corresponding to the adductor pollicis aponeurosis (AA, arrows), which is variably visualized in normal fingers. B. Longitudinal sonogram shows the UCL tear (asterisks) as an irregularly swollen, hypoechoic structure under the AA (arrows). No significant ligament retraction is visible.
