Description

WPA Camp, Larch Mountain Road, Mount Hood National Forest

  • "Timberline Lodge is six thousand feet up on the south slope of Mount Hood. According to WPA records, its building costs totaled $695,730 in 1936–38; 20 percent of the cost was for materials and the remainder for labor, 90 percent of which was from the WPA (the workers lived nearby in a tent city). Building trade laborers received the top rate of ninety cents per hour, and unskilled laborers fifty-five cents per hour." — Roger G. Kennedy, When Art Worked (2009), page 338
