Summary
DescriptionExhausted by its struggles to get out of a shell hole (4687959045).jpg
English: Mule stuck in a shell hole, Western Front, during World War I. This photograph is one of two which show French soldiers trying to pull an exhausted mule out of the mud of a shell hole. The animal, still in its harness, is exhausted and has little chance of survival. The second mule has been rescued and is standing to the left.
Men, as well as animals, died by getting stuck in the mud.
