Summary
DescriptionAntarah ibn Shaddad & Abla.jpg |
A 19th-century tattooing pattern depicting pre-Islamic Arab hero and poet Antarah ibn Shaddad (left) and his lover Abla (middle) riding horses. The character on the right is called Shayboub. The inscription in the lower left-hand corner indicates that the pattern was printed under the auspices of Muhammad Muhammad Abu Taleb. The original uploader of this image on Flickr stated that it came from the Cairo Anthropological Museum. However, there is no such museum in Cairo. The uploader most likely intended to refer to the Ethnographic Museum (http://egyptiangs.com/all_details.php?id=48&sub_cat=65&cat=8), which is affiliated with the Egyptian Geographic Society.
