Summary

Description
English: Fig. 2. Adherence mechanism of EPEC: Ⓐ The EPEC strains from contaminated food, they adhere by fimbrial adherence using flagella and pili; Afimbrial adhesion using surface binding proteins intimin. Ⓑ The normal actin filaments in the host epithelial cells. Ⓒ EspB and EspD are surface binding proteins that bind EPEC with microvilli of host epithelial cells and change regular actin dynamic functions. Ⓓ Adherent EPEC causes A/E lesions and secretes virulent proteins like EspF, EspG, EspH and Tir which causes diarrhea. Ⓔ EspC protein from adherent EPEC plays a major role in bacterial replication. Ⓕ EspC also stimulates biofilm formation.
