Fawzi Mesmar (born in Saudi Arabia) is a Jordanian creative director and game designer. He has worked for companies such as Ubisoft,[1] DICE (EA), King (Activision Blizzard), Gameloft, and Atlus (Sega), among others.[2][3]

Career

Game design

Mesmar has contributed to over 20 game titles, including the Battlefield franchise, Candy Crush franchise, and the Persona series.[4]

Leadership and management

Mesmar has held leadership and managerial positions in various companies with diverse cultures worldwide. He has overseen teams of various sizes across different projects and expertise.[5]

Writing

Mesmar authored Al-Khallab on the Art of Game Design, the first textbook on game design in Arabic.[6] He also co-authored the Men of Honor comic book series, which sold 5 million copies in the Middle East and North Africa. Mesmar is a columnist at Pocket Gamer Arabia and frequently blogs about game design and the business of making games.[7]

Public speaking and mentorship

Mesmar is a frequent speaker at global gaming conventions such as the GDC, NZGDC, DWGC, MEGA, MGDC, White Nights, Games Forum, Mobile Games Forum, Quo Vadis, Pocket Gamer, and Casual Connect.[8]

Education and mentorship

Mesmar lectures at various game design schools, including Future Games in Stockholm, University of the Arts London, Breda University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands, Auckland Media Design School, Auckland University of Technology, American University in Cairo, Berlin Games Academy, Jordan Gaming Labs, and Lifeway College in New Zealand. He is also a Google mentor and a jury member at the International Mobile Gaming Awards (IMGA) and Game Developers Choice Awards (GDCA). Additionally, he co-founded the IGDA chapter in Berlin, Germany.[9]

E-sports

In his youth, Mesmar was a competitive player, placing 3rd in the national finals of the World Cyber Games (WCG) in StarCraft: Brood War in 2010 and 5th in the national finals of Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition in 2012.[3]
